Meta Forces Employees to Provide Operation Data for AI Training, Sparkling Controversy
Meta recently plans to collect employees' computer operation data such as mouse movements, keystrokes, shortcuts, and screen operations to train AI models. The most controversial part of the plan is that employees cannot opt out—it's a mandatory requirement for work, raising concerns about employee consent rights and workplace trust.
Meta launched an internal tracking system called the "Model Capability Initiative" (MCI), now renamed the "Agent Transformation Accelerator", to speed up AI integration into workflows. CTO Andrew Bosworth stated that in the future, AI agents will take on most work, with humans only responsible for guidance and review, meaning employees' work behaviors may become training data that replaces their own positions.
A Meta spokesperson responded that training AI assistants requires real computer operation cases, and protective measures have been set up to ensure the safety of sensitive content, and the data will not be used for other purposes.
