Meta Plans to Use Employee Operation Data to Train AI Models, Raising Privacy Concerns
Meta is seeking new training data sources for its AI models: its own employees. The company plans to collect data from employees' mouse movements and keyboard operations to build more powerful and efficient AI.
A Meta spokesperson said that to create smart assistants that help people with daily computer tasks, models need real-world computer usage cases (like mouse movements, button clicks). Therefore, the company will launch an internal tool to collect operation data from specific apps, with safeguards to protect sensitive content, and the data will not be used for other purposes.
This trend raises privacy concerns: tech firms are going to great lengths to get training data, even internal communication content has become raw material for data supply chains. Last week, some organizations collected internal communication data from startups for AI training.
