NVIDIA Adjusts HBM4 Supply Strategy, Prioritizes 8-Hi Stacks to Boost Rubin GPU Output
According to South Korean media ZDNET Korea, NVIDIA has asked upstream HBM memory suppliers to adjust HBM4 supply plans, increasing the share of 8-high (8Hi) stacks while reducing 12Hi HBM4. With the global memory market in short supply, lower stacking allows more HBM4 stacks per DRAM wafer, boosting Rubin GPU shipments.
12Hi stacks generate more heat, putting yield pressure on HBM4E with extensive I/O. The 8Hi approach also reduces DRAM die processing losses. NVIDIA is also considering downgrading Rubin Ultra's HBM config to ease shortages.
