Nvidia adjusts Rubin Ultra HBM specs due to supply limits
According to Korea's Eugene Investment & Securities and TrendForce, Nvidia is evaluating lowering the HBM configuration for next year's Rubin Ultra AI GPU. Possible changes include downgrading from HBM4E to HBM4, or from 12Hi to 8Hi stacking. This is due to uncertainties in the verification progress of HBM4E by major DRAM manufacturers. Reducing stacking layers could allow more units to be shipped given limited DRAM supply. TrendForce believes Rubin Ultra's main upgrade is I/O speed, so Nvidia is more likely to choose lower HBM stacking. Some AI ASIC makers are also considering lower HBM capacity.
