OpenAI CEO admits AI adoption is slower than expected, habits are the biggest hurdle
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman admitted in a recent podcast that he and others may have overestimated how fast AI would spread. He said it will take longer for AI to become as common as Google Search or the iPhone. Altman pointed out that the biggest obstacle is human habit. People are used to existing tools and find it hard to switch to new AI platforms like Codex, even if they are powerful. He noted that economic inertia is huge, and people keep doing what they always do, which makes the transition smoother but slower. He compared it to Netflix's early days, saying changing behavior is harder than tech folks think. Altman also said the industry hasn't done a good job explaining AI's benefits and risks to the public.
