OpenAI CEO Altman Criticizes Anthropic: Mythos Model Uses Fear-Marketing to Restrict AI Access to Few
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently criticized Anthropic's new cybersecurity model on a podcast, accusing the competitor of using fear to exaggerate the product's capabilities. He argued that Anthropic's 'fear-based marketing' is actually meant to keep AI technology in the hands of a small elite, using the analogy of 'building a bomb and selling you a bomb shelter' to mock the strategy.
Earlier this month, Anthropic released the Mythos model, available only to a few enterprise clients, citing concerns that cybercriminals could use it as an attack tool. However, critics say this claim is overstated.
Industry sources note that fear-based marketing isn't unique to Anthropic; many AI companies use similar tactics to highlight their tools' power, including Altman himself, who has previously made remarks about AI doomsday scenarios.
