OpenAI explains GPT-5.6 Sol file deletion as an accidental glitch

OpenAI's lead product manager Tibo Sottiaux recently addressed the issue of GPT-5.6 Sol deleting user files without asking. This happened in 'full access' mode when Codex ran without sandbox protection and automatic checks were off. Sottiaux said the AI model meant to set up a temporary folder but accidentally wiped the entire $HOME directory due to a glitch. OpenAI is now updating developer alerts to push safer permission settings and adding extra protections to prevent similar mistakes.
