OpenAI Pauses New $200 Pro Subscriptions to Keep GPT-6 Astra Running Smoothly

OpenAI's Chief Product Officer Tibo announced on X that the company is pausing new sign-ups for its $200 Pro 20X subscription to keep GPT-6 Astra running smoothly for existing users. The $200 tier is no longer available, leaving only the $100 per month 5X Pro plan.

Tibo explained that the Pro subscription puts the most strain on the system, and pausing new sign-ups is the least disruptive way to widen access. Existing ChatGPT subscribers are not affected, and OpenAI is adding capacity as fast as it can.

The change only affects new subscriptions to the $200 Pro plan. Other subscription tiers and API services remain open. Demand for GPT-6 Astra has been unprecedented, and OpenAI had already warned it might pause new Pro sign-ups if needed.
