OpenAI's Altman on Home Attack Incident: More Similar Events May Occur in the Future
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently talked about the attack on his San Francisco home, saying more such incidents may happen in the future. The early-morning attack involved Daniel Moreno-Garcia, who traveled from Texas to throw a Molotov cocktail at Altman's $27 million residence. He was later arrested outside OpenAI's headquarters.
Altman noted that doomsday talk about AI in the industry and the way some labs (like Anthropic) talk about OpenAI do not help ease the situation. He also suggested that an exposé in The New Yorker might have increased his risk, and he went through a severe low period due to the incident. The attacker faces state and federal charges, including attempted murder, and law enforcement found an anti-AI document on him listing names of other AI company CEOs.
