OpenAI's Altman says AI's benefits are worth some downsides
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in an interview on Politico's new podcast "Decoded" that the world should accept some bad things AI brings, in exchange for its huge benefits and user freedom. He said OpenAI's key split with strict AI safety advocates is its push for a lighter approach to regulation.
Altman believes AI's benefits far outweigh its harms. Tech site TechSpot noted AI has already caused job losses, data center pollution and noise, copyright issues, spam, and a spike in power and water demand.
NYU professor Gary Marcus slammed his words as "put up with it, so you can make us rich and powerful." Many people voiced frustration over his renewed claim that AI's upsides beat its downsides.
