OpenAI Voice Mode Lets Users Pick Models, Pro Plans Get GPT-5.6 Sol and GPT-6 Astra
OpenAI voice product lead Atty Eleti announced that ChatGPT Voice now lets users freely choose their preferred model and reasoning depth. Pro plan users can access GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra. When voice mode needs to perform web searches or complex reasoning, it will automatically call the user's specified model. Each time a question is handed off to the underlying text model, it counts as one message sent to that model.
OpenAI also simplified the daily usage limits for GPT-Live. The Go plan offers up to 3 hours of GPT-Live-1 mini usage and no longer includes access to GPT-Live-1. Plus offers up to 3 hours of GPT-Live-1. Pro at $100/month gives 15 hours, while Pro at $200/month offers unlimited GPT-Live-1 usage. Plus and Pro users will no longer be downgraded to GPT-Live mini after using up their voice quota.
With this update, the original Instant, Medium, and High voice intelligence tiers have been officially discontinued.
