Over 200 Child Experts Write to YouTube: Stop Recommending AI-Generated Videos to Minors
Over 200 child development experts and related institutions have written to Google and YouTube CEOs, demanding YouTube and YouTube Kids stop showing or recommending AI-generated videos to minors. They point out that many AI videos labeled as 'educational' lack substance, low-quality content is increasing, and some creators are profiting from this.
Experts worry such 'AI garbage' videos will affect children's attention, weaken their ability to distinguish reality from fiction, and take time away from real-world activities crucial for emotional and social development. They believe YouTube's spread of AI content without research support is equivalent to a harmful experiment.
YouTube responded that it has set strict standards for children's content, restricting AI content to high-quality channels and providing parental blocking options. However, critics note that AI content labels are ineffective for non-reading children. Google's recent investment in AI animation company Animaj to improve children's content quality has also sparked controversy.
