Over a Third of New Web Pages Since ChatGPT May Be AI-Made, Says Pew
A Pew Research study shows that since ChatGPT launched in November 2022, over a third of new web pages may have AI-made content. They looked at about 500,000 English pages over five years, using a tool called Open Pangram. After removing old pages, 35% of new pages seemed AI-written or edited. .com sites were about 10 times more likely to have AI content than .edu or .gov sites.
Also, Cloudflare noted that bot traffic has overtaken human visits. This raises worries about a loop where bots read bot-made content. Pew admits the tool can make mistakes, but the overall trend suggests AI is changing the web a lot.
