Palantir CEO Says Anthropic's AI Regulation Push Is Really About Seeking Nationalization
Alex Karp, CEO of US tech company Palantir, said in a CNBC interview that frontier AI labs like Anthropic may not be pushing for stronger AI regulation out of safety concerns, but rather seeking nationalization to gain government protection.
Karp pointed out that these companies could face massive lawsuits over alleged intellectual property theft in the future. If such lawsuits become widespread, AI companies may turn to the US government for shelter to avoid legal liability. He revealed that some clients reported their proprietary business ideas ended up in chatbot training data and were exposed to outsiders.
Karp believes the debate over AI has been wrongly framed as regulation versus anti-regulation. The only way to deal with this legal liability, he said, is to ask the government for nationalization. Palantir previously released a manifesto urging companies to keep their data in-house.
