Publishers Label Books as Not for AI Training
Recently, AI companies have been buying up rare books and using high-speed scanners that cut off the spines to digitize them, then shredding the paper originals. This destructive scanning method is popular because it's faster and cheaper, leading to millions of paper books being destroyed, which has sparked public concern.
In response, some publishers have started labeling their books as not for AI training. A representative from Huaxia Publishing House said that if book content is used for AI training without permission, it's hard to protect rights, but they will still add the label to show their stance and remind people that books are copyrighted. After internal discussions, the publisher thinks it's better to clearly mark this on books, and many non-imported titles now include this notice.
