SpaceX pulls Starlink and Starship engineers to speed up Grok AI model
Elon Musk said SpaceX has moved dozens of top engineers from Starlink and Starship to work on improving its Grok AI model. He posted on X that these engineers are now focusing most of their energy on AI development, making the model updates much faster.
This month, SpaceX bought AI code startup Cursor for $60 billion. Its engineers are also helping build a new basic model, with some training data coming from Cursor. The latest Grok 4.5 is being tested inside Tesla and SpaceX, and Musk says they will release a brand new model every month this year.
Earlier, Musk's AI plans hit some roadblocks. His company xAI went through a big shakeup, and Grok still lags behind rivals like OpenAI, especially in coding. SpaceX plans to use its IPO money to build a network of data centers in space, powered by Starlink and Starship, to train AI models. It sees a potential market of $265 trillion for AI.
