Sweden Bans ChatGPT and Claude for Government Staff, Pushes Microsoft Copilot
The Swedish Government Offices announced that starting next Monday, staff will be barred from directly accessing ChatGPT and Claude on work computers. Employees must switch to approved AI services such as Microsoft Copilot.
Internal documents show the agency reviewed Copilot and further strengthened its security. Digital director Mikael Wettercrantz noted on the intranet that using AI services without signed agreements could harm information security.
Sweden's Tax Agency and the National Institution Administration have taken similar blocking steps. An earlier audit by Sweden's Transport Administration found staff widely used about 10 AI services, with risks around entering sensitive data and handling AI answers.
Some staff can still use ChatGPT and Claude through an in-house AI assistant platform. The press office declined to share details of the Copilot security upgrades, citing safety concerns.
