Tencent responds to AI criticism, says it's catching up fast on OpenClaw
Tencent executive Tang Daosheng responded to criticism that the company is slow in AI development at the 2026 Tencent Cloud AI Industry Conference. He admitted different business lines move at different speeds, but said Tencent is open to feedback. He noted that AI is a long race, and Tencent has reacted quickly to the OpenClaw trend. Tencent's chief AI scientist Yao Shunyu said the next phase of AI is about building a long-term AGI organization in China. He stressed three priorities: strengthening pre-training and post-training foundations, turning tech into real products, and exploring new research approaches. The conference is being held at the Beijing National Convention Center.
