Trump Calls Jensen Huang, Says AI Safety Fears Are a Hoax

US President Donald Trump called Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during an industry summit and strongly defended AI on speakerphone. He called fears about AI safety a "hoax" and said "robots won't take over. AI won't rule the rest of the world." Trump also praised data centers as "great," saying they will make individuals and states rich, calling them "the oil of the next 20, 25 years."

Meanwhile, David Sacks, co-chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, said top AI companies Anthropic and OpenAI should make safe products on their own timeline without government interference. He previously criticized both companies on social media, saying they face huge liability risks if their products cause destructive cyberattacks, and that the market is already punishing unpredictable models.

Earlier, several top US AI CEOs called for slowing down tech development, sending global AI stocks lower. The latest remarks show differing views on AI regulation within the US government.
