U.S. Department of Defense Partners with 7 AI Companies to Deploy Advanced AI Tools on Classified Networks
The U.S. Department of Defense recently announced an agreement with 7 AI companies to deploy their advanced AI capabilities on its classified networks, expanding the range of AI partners for the military. These companies include OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Microsoft, etc., and their AI tools will be accessed on IL6 and IL7-level classified network environments, allowing more military personnel to use relevant tools.
Notably, Anthropic is not on the cooperation list. The company was previously listed as a supply chain risk due to disputes with the Pentagon over AI tool usage restrictions, and its products are banned for use by the Department of Defense and its contractors. Additionally, the DoD's GenAI.mil platform has been used by over 130,000 personnel since its launch 5 months ago; Anthropic's Mythos model has raised national security concerns due to its advanced network capabilities.
