US officials face death threats amid data center construction disputes
In Marshall, Michigan, a one-year pause on data center construction issued on August 3 has sparked threats against local officials. Mayor Scott Wolfersberger confirmed police are investigating death threats received by council members. Similar threats appeared on a Facebook page in Salix, Iowa. In April, Indianapolis councilman Ron Gibson's home was shot 13 times after he supported a zoning plan. Over 500 local governments in the US have now restricted data centers, citing power use, infrastructure strain, and environmental concerns.
