WordPress 7.0 to Launch on April 9: 43% of Global Websites Will Natively Support AI Agent Integration
WordPress 7.0 is scheduled to launch on April 9, with the core update being the integration of the MCP adapter into its core. This allows about 43% of global WordPress sites to act as MCP servers, supporting AI Agents like Claude and ChatGPT to directly discover site functions and perform operations.
The new version adds three components at the AI infrastructure level: AI Connectors to centrally manage AI service API keys; Abilities API for plugins to declare functions in AI-understandable formats; and MCP Adapter to expose these functions to AI Agents via the protocol, which can be called after user authorization.
WordPress.com has already rolled out MCP write permissions on March 20, covering 19 operations. All actions require user confirmation, new content is saved as drafts by default, deleted content is retained in the recycle bin for 30 days, and OAuth 2.1 authentication is enabled to ensure security.
