Zuckerberg says AI won't necessarily kill jobs, pushes for personal superintelligence
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told Business Insider he doesn't think AI will necessarily cause massive job loss. He believes things could improve if companies focus more on 'personal superintelligence' instead of trying to automate all knowledge work.
Zuckerberg warned that if only a few companies push for automating knowledge work, the outcome would be 'pretty bad.' He wants a balance: some firms boost business efficiency, others go for personal superintelligence to give people more power and keep raising productivity.
He stressed that workers' productivity must grow faster than companies' automation speed. If the focus is on empowering people and improving their productivity faster than automation, theoretically, jobs should increase, not decrease.
Meta has spent billions revamping its AI strategy, which Zuckerberg calls a 'restart.' He said there's still room for improvement in generative AI, noting the Meta superintelligence lab is less than a year old.
