Zuckerberg Says Alignment Tech Will Be the Key to Winning in AI
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on X, responding to the debate over slowing down AI development. He said users will not use agents that do not match their values or follow instructions, so AI labs naturally have a strong incentive to improve model alignment.
Zuckerberg believes trust and alignment are quickly becoming the key competitive edge that separates agents and models. Labs that ignore alignment tech will be left behind. If a model causes harm, the lab will face major legal liability, which also drives them to prevent problems before they happen.
He revealed that Meta delayed the release of Muse by several months to ensure safety and system protection, and has brought in independent external evaluators. MSL has already put this into practice across several areas. Zuckerberg said using most compute to serve the public is a better way to develop the tech safely than chasing recursive self-improvement.
