Accenture Report Flagged for 15 Fake Citations

The consulting industry's growing reliance on AI tools is raising concerns about content reliability. According to detector GPTZero, a report by Accenture and researchers at IE University in Madrid appears to contain 15 fake citations and completely made-up case studies. The report looks at how AI can boost farm productivity in Africa.

Accenture disputes the findings. A spokesperson said an internal review shows the errors came from human mistakes, with no evidence they were caused by AI hallucination. The company is fixing the report and will finish the work before republishing it.

GPTZero warned that made-up citations are a real threat to researchers, scholars and anyone searching for information online. Firms like Deloitte and EY, plus top law firms in the UK and the US, have faced similar AI errors. Accenture has pushed staff to use AI, and last month it set new limits after some workers' bills for tools like Claude topped $1,000 a month.
