AI bot traffic surges 1,700% in a year, now 60% of web traffic
Cloudflare's Asia-Pacific VP Goran Risticsevich said at a press event in Seoul that AI bot traffic has jumped over 1,700% in the past year, now making up about 60% of all web traffic. This shows the internet is shifting from human-centered to machine-driven. While a person might visit four or five sites to plan a trip, an AI bot can connect to thousands at once, expanding the attack surface. Cloudflare also warns about 'shadow AI'—employees using unapproved AI tools—and 'shadow MCP' risks, where unauthorized connections bypass security controls.
