AI Inference Demand Surge Leads Intel Processors to Plan 10% Price Hike
South Korean media ETNews reports that Intel plans to raise CPU prices by about 10% across the board due to surging AI inference demand. The price hike comes as AI technology evolves into the inference phase, leading to a sharp increase in CPU-dependent workloads, putting heavy demand on x86 architecture vendors like Intel.
To meet the booming orders, Intel is adjusting its production lines, shifting focus from the consumer market to the enterprise sector. Large-scale cloud service providers have recently shown strong interest in 4th-gen Xeon processors, further pushing Intel to tilt chip production capacity toward servers.
If the price hike goes through, PC manufacturers will face more difficulties—already struggling with memory and GPU shortages, the CPU price increase will significantly squeeze their profit margins, even threatening their survival. Ultimately, this impact will reach ordinary consumers; IDC notes that PC suppliers can hardly maintain their current pricing.
