Lenovo CEO: 80% of AI Tokens Will Be Generated on Devices and Edge
Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing shared his take on AI trends at an internal training. He said that as large models reach trillion-parameter scale and Token usage keeps growing, improving computing efficiency and cutting Token costs will be key for AI to go mainstream.
He predicts that 80% of future Tokens will be generated on devices and at the edge, as AI moves from cloud-centered computing to a mix of device, edge, and cloud. Once personal AI takes off, he believes everyone will need a home server or personal AI hub built around their own data.
He also said many future devices will be used by AI agents instead of people, and must support agents running, working together, and doing tasks on their own. Lenovo's global AI PC market share hit 25.1% in its first fiscal quarter, a record for the period.
Separately, The Wall Street Journal reported that DeepSeek has completed a new funding round of 100 billion yuan, with Lenovo-linked investors joining.
