Amazon boss says AI won't kill jobs, just change them
Amazon Web Services CEO Matt Garman says doomsday predictions about AI causing mass unemployment are overblown. He believes AI might change about half of white-collar jobs, but 'change' is not the same as 'disappear.'
Using Microsoft Excel as an example, Garman says new tech often reshapes how we work instead of killing jobs. He notes AI is already creating new career paths, and Amazon plans to hire over 11,000 software development interns and entry-level engineers globally this year.
Garman emphasizes adaptability will soon matter more than specific skills. Workers who are willing to learn new tools may find their jobs become more exciting, even if the work looks different. He encourages focusing on learning ability rather than sticking to current skills.
