AMD FSR 4.1: RX 7000 gets it in July, RX 6000 waits until next year
At COMPUTEX 2026 in Taipei, AMD explained that FSR 4.1 is built on FP8 data, but the RDNA 3 AI accelerator only supports INT8. So they adapted the model to make INT8-based FSR 4.1 match FP8 quality. The Radeon RX 7000 series will get it this July. For the RX 6000 series, things are trickier. RDNA 2 lacks a dedicated AI accelerator, so it has to use regular shader units to run FSR 4.1, which needs heavy optimization, especially cutting shader cycle usage. That's why RX 6000 support won't arrive until early next year. AMD also shared its development process: training on smaller clusters with Instinct MI accelerators, optimizing on Radeon PRO workstation cards, and testing across hundreds of thousands of PC setups. The unified ROCm platform makes model migration easier.
