Anthropic Sues U.S. Government to Reverse Pentagon's Supply Chain Risk Designation
Anthropic filed a lawsuit in California federal court on March 9, seeking to reverse the Pentagon's designation of it as a supply chain risk and block federal agencies from enforcing the decision. The Pentagon added Anthropic to the national security blacklist last Thursday, citing its technology being used in Iranian military operations.
Anthropic claims the designation is illegal and violates its freedom of speech and due process rights. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth listed Anthropic as a risk after it refused to remove restrictions on AI use for autonomous weapons or domestic surveillance. Anthropic's CEO clarified the designation is limited, and businesses can still use its tools in non-Pentagon projects.
