Apple App Store Submissions Surge 84% YoY in Q1, AI Programming Tools Are Key Drivers
Apple App Store app submissions increased by 84% YoY in Q1 2026, reaching 235,800 in the quarter. Sensor Tower data shows submissions have been rising since 2025, with a 30% YoY increase for the full year 2025, totaling nearly 600,000.
"Atmosphere programming" tools are the core driver. AI tools like ChatGPT Codex and Claude Code can auto-generate code, lowering development barriers—even beginners can build complex apps, and professional developers see improved efficiency.
The surge brings review pressure. Apple says 90% of apps are reviewed within 48 hours, with an average cycle of 1.5 days. However, low-quality apps have increased. Apple has tightened regulation, restricting some AI development tools to prevent bypassing App Store reviews.
