Apple shows off 1-trillion-parameter Kimi K2.6 running locally at WWDC
During a special WWDC 2026 talk, Apple highlighted how developers can use AI tools to build apps. An engineer created a WWDC badge tracker app with 3D animations and holographic effects using just one prompt.
At the end of the video, Apple demonstrated running Kimi K2.6, a 1-trillion-parameter model from China's Moonshot AI, locally on four Mac Studios via LM Studio. The demo used low-latency RDMA over Thunderbolt to enable microsecond-level memory access across the machines.
Released in April 2026, Kimi K2.6 improves coding and long-task execution. The demo shows Apple's push for running large models efficiently on local devices, giving developers more powerful AI tools.
