Bank of England Governor Warns: Anthropic's New AI Model Mythos May Pose Major Cybersecurity Threats
Andrew Bailey, Governor of the Bank of England, recently said at an event at Columbia University in New York that central banks and financial regulators globally must quickly understand the potential impact of Anthropic's new AI model Mythos, which may pose a major cybersecurity threat. He noted that while people previously focused on the situation in the Gulf region, last Friday Anthropic's product might upend the cybersecurity risk landscape.
Cybersecurity experts have warned that Mythos could significantly boost the power of complex cyberattacks, presenting severe challenges to the banking industry's existing technical systems. Bailey stated that regulators need to clarify how well the model can identify exploitable security vulnerabilities in other systems, adding that cybersecurity risks have rapidly become a top concern for regulators in recent years, with threat actors constantly changing tactics that require ongoing response.
