Bill Gates says AI is more dangerous than nuclear weapons
Microsoft founder Bill Gates recently said AI is a field that cannot regulate itself and must be guided by governments, adding that not enough attention is being paid to its risks.
He pledged to spend one billion dollars over the next two years to bring AI to healthcare, education, and farming, such as helping rural doctors use smartphones as ultrasound tools and giving students personalized tutoring.
Gates believes AI is unlike the PC or the internet. It is more like an evolutionary event, where humans created intelligence that matches or exceeds their own. Seeing it as just the next PC would greatly underestimate its impact.
He called AI more dangerous than nuclear weapons but possibly more helpful, and predicted AI-driven cyberattacks will be one of the biggest changes in 2027, saying basic safety checks barely slow things down and are a trade worth making.
