ByteDance Internally Suspends Doubao AI Glasses Project with Over 50 Million RMB in R&D Investment
ByteDance confirmed internally in February to suspend the Doubao AI glasses project, and the product line will no longer be a definite direction in the visible period.
The project was jointly developed by ByteDance and Longqi Tech. The product weighs less than 50 grams, is equipped with a self-developed spatial algorithm chip, and the starting price is controlled within 2000 yuan. The original plan was to release the screenless version in Q1 2026 and the display version in Q4, with Longqi requiring an order quantity of 1 million units. ByteDance's R&D investment in the project exceeded 50 million yuan.
The reason for suspension is the internal judgment that AI glasses are difficult to differentiate: the screenless route focuses on voice interaction, overlapping with the functions of ByteDance's 2024 Ola Friend AI headphones; in the industry, Meta's smart glasses account for 73% of the market share, making it hard for latecomers to form differences. Vivo also suspended its AI glasses project earlier for similar reasons.
