ByteDance Suspends Global Launch of Seedance 2.0 Over Copyright Disputes
ByteDance recently suspended the global launch of its latest video generation model Seedance 2.0 due to copyright disputes with major Hollywood studios and streaming platforms. Just one month after the model was launched in China, it received complaints from Disney, Skydance (owned by Paramount), and other companies for using copyrighted material, along with cease-and-desist notices.
User-generated content like an AI video of Brad Pitt fighting Tom Cruise raised concerns about the model's training data sources. In February this year, ByteDance stated it was strengthening protective measures to prevent unauthorized use of intellectual property and portrait rights by users. This suspension also highlights the legal and regulatory pressure AI developers face regarding training data.
