China removes nearly 13,000 AI-altered videos in one month
China's National Radio and Television Administration said its special campaign against "AI-altered" videos, launched in January 2026, has shown results. Major online video platforms recently reported their September numbers: nearly 13,000 violating videos were removed and more than 30 accounts were taken down. Details from each platform have not been released yet. "AI-altered" videos usually refer to works made by using AI to twist classic films and shows into distorted remakes. To keep the results going, the campaign will become a long-term, regular practice starting February 1, 2026. Regulators are asking major platforms to take more responsibility and run daily checks. The focus is on videos that alter classics like the Four Great Chinese Novels, historical stories, revolutionary works and hero figures. Harmful cartoons are also being removed to build a healthier online viewing space.
