Chip Startup SiFive Secures $400M Funding, Nvidia and Other Giants Join AI Hardware Competition
Chip startup SiFive recently raised $400 million in funding, led by Atreides Management, with participation from Nvidia, Apollo Global Management and Point72. This round of funding values the company at $3.65 billion, and the funds will be used to expand its influence in the AI data center sector.
SiFive's core technology is the open RISC-V instruction set, seen as a challenger to traditional x86 and ARM architectures. Nvidia, a giant in AI chips, joined the investment, possibly to layout future AI computing paradigms independent of ARM, highlighting the urgent demand for high-performance computing in AI data centers.
This funding event reflects that AI competition has deepened into the hardware level, with capital accelerating into the AI track. The threshold for building large-scale computing power is rising, and future AI competition may become a game between a few giants.
