Claude Code hits $1 billion annualized revenue in 6 months; a16z says Vibe Coding not mainstream yet
Venture capital firm a16z's Global Top 100 AI Consumer Products list shows that Anthropic's command-line development tool Claude Code has achieved $1 billion in annualized revenue just six months after its launch. OpenAI's desktop programming app Codex has 2 million weekly active users with a 25% weekly growth rate, and AI coding tool Cursor ranks in the top 50 web tools.
The report also notes that Vibe Coding has not yet broken into mainstream users. While traffic growth for the top five platforms has slowed, revenue continues to rise due to increased usage intensity by developers and teams. Additionally, a16z admits that the current ranking method based on web visits and mobile MAU fails to reflect real AI usage—for example, developers who use Claude Code for 8 hours a day generate almost no web traffic, so the statistical approach needs further evolution.
