Cursor Launches Composer 2 AI Models: Focus on Long-Cycle Programming, 86% Cost Reduction for Million Tokens
AI coding platform Cursor recently launched two programming models, Composer 2 and Composer 2 Fast, focusing on long-horizon agent programming. They feature a 200,000-token context window and are optimized for complex multi-step tasks within the Cursor environment.
In terms of pricing, Composer 2 Standard Edition costs $0.5 and $2.5 per million tokens for input/output, an 86% drop from the previous Composer 1.5. The Fast version is also ~57% cheaper, plus a cache reading discount to reduce developers' daily costs.
The model is not a standalone large model; it's only used within the Cursor ecosystem with no external API, integrating tools like semantic search. It outperformed Claude Opus in Terminal-Bench tests but lags slightly behind GPT-5.4. Cursor emphasizes its high cost-performance advantage.
