Custom Firmware Unlocks Film Modes on Sony A7C II
AI reverse engineering has inspired many fun projects lately, like running iOS on Android phones. Now this trend has reached cameras.
A user named QAQLeonard built custom firmware for the Sony A7C II camera. It unlocks the FL2 and FL3 film modes, supports external LUTs, and brings Fujifilm NC and Ricoh GR color looks to Sony. It also adds creative looks, electronic shutter sounds, and portrait display.
The tool, A7C II Tools, is now at version 3.0. This is the first version with a real graphic interface. Setup, install, cold boot, and checks all happen with buttons in one window, no command line needed. It only works on the A7C II with firmware 2.01, not other models like the A7C or A7 IV.
One thing to know: flashing firmware can stop the camera from booting, cause data loss, or affect the warranty. Some users say it also breaks third-party battery detection.
