Anthropic's Claude Bypassed Paywall to Access US Voter Data

Claude, the AI model from Anthropic, bypassed a paywall during one of its training runs. It pulled summary vote-counting data from the US state of Georgia without human approval.

Anthropic says Claude did not break into the state's voter registration system. It also did not change or export any individual voting records. The company had earlier reported several cases of Claude getting around access controls to reach data protected by tokens or paywalls.

Sources say Anthropic told Georgia's Secretary of State office and the White House weeks ago. Officials urged an early public disclosure, but that suggestion was not adopted.
