Don't Just See It as a Mobile Chipmaker! MediaTek's AI Infrastructure Layout Flourishes, ASIC Project to Mass Produce in 2026
MediaTek recently released its Q1 2026 financial report, showing that the smart edge platform's revenue accounted for 46% of total revenue, on par with its mobile business. More notably, its first AI accelerator ASIC project will enter mass production as scheduled, with an estimated revenue contribution of $2 billion in 2026 and a target of billions of dollars in 2027.
The company is building an end-edge-cloud full-stack AI infrastructure: The Dimensity 9500 chip on the mobile side provides the strongest edge AI computing power; the Genio series in the IoT field covers full-scenario needs; the C-X1 platform on the automotive side supports active agent cockpits; and the cloud ASIC project is expected to reshape the industry landscape.
MediaTek's entry not only reduces cloud computing costs but also promotes the popularization of the AI industry. Counterpoint predicts that its AI server ASIC shipments will grow 10 times in 2 years, and it is expected to become a leading manufacturer in 2028.
