Google Deploys Gemini AI Agents to Over 3 Million US Department of Defense Personnel
Google announced the deployment of Gemini AI agents to over 3 million civilian and military personnel of the US Department of Defense. Initially, the tools are only used on unclassified networks, and plans to expand to classified systems are under discussion.
The first eight AI agents launched mainly handle administrative tasks, including organizing meeting minutes, preparing budgets, and reviewing action plans for compliance with the US national defense strategy. Staff can also create custom AI agents via natural language.
Since December last year, about 1.2 million Pentagon employees have used Google's AI chatbot through the GenAI.mil portal to complete unclassified tasks, submitting about 40 million prompts and uploading over 4 million documents. However, training progress lags behind—only 26,000 people have completed the courses, though training sessions are now fully booked.
