Google Gemini Adds Mental Health Support Features to Aid Crisis Intervention and Resource Connection
Google recently made a series of improvements to Gemini, focusing on enhancing its ability to handle mental health issues. When users mention crisis signals like suicide or self-harm, Gemini triggers a 'one-click connection' module, guiding users to call hotlines, chat online, or access professional resources—this module remains visible throughout the conversation.
For mental health information needs, Gemini also displays a 'Help is nearby' module to provide efficient professional support. Additionally, Google has set multiple protection mechanisms for young users to prevent Gemini from becoming a companion with simulated intimate relationships and avoid emotional dependence. Google plans to invest 30 million US dollars over the next three years to enhance the capacity of global hotline services.
