Google is gradually shutting down its AI coding assistant Jules

Google launched its AI coding assistant Jules in December 2024. It was positioned as a tool that could handle coding tasks developers didn't want to do.

Now Google says it is gradually shutting Jules down. The official statement said Jules started as an experiment to see if async coding agents could help developers ship faster, and what it learned has shaped many Google products.

Google will move these lessons into its AI coding platform Antigravity. Built by Google DeepMind, Antigravity is a standalone IDE based on VS Code, supporting Windows, macOS and Linux, where AI can plan, run, check and improve complex software tasks on its own.

As Google shifts focus to one unified experience, Jules will wind down. Users will later get both remote background task execution and an agent-first coding environment in Antigravity.
