Huawei says Ascend chip share in China has passed Nvidia
Huawei has shared Q&A details from its conference with the media. The event saw the launch of the Ascend 950 chip and its supernode, built on a new computing architecture called Peerium, which links thousands of processors to work together as one computer.
Asked if the Ascend 950 supernode would reach markets outside China, rotating chairman Eric Xu said Huawei cannot even make enough chips to meet demand in China, so there are no plans for a full global rollout. A few countries with strong demand are getting limited supply for testing.
Xu also said Ascend's share in the Chinese market has passed Nvidia, based on Huawei's own data. He believes China pushing for chip self-sufficiency is an inevitable path, and the goal will become reality sooner or later.
