Meta moves AI chip orders to Samsung's 2nm process, worth over $6 billion
Meta is speeding up its custom AI chip development, planning to use Samsung's 2nm manufacturing for its MTIA series. A Korean media report says Meta's first two MTIA chips were made by TSMC, but now it's switching to Samsung with orders worth over 10 trillion won (about $6 billion).
Meta announced an aggressive plan in March to release 4 new AI chip generations in 2 years. The MTIA 300 is already in production, the MTIA 400 is being deployed, and the MTIA 450 and 500 are expected to launch in early 2027 and 2028.
To hit a super-fast 6-month upgrade cycle, Meta is working closely with Samsung's System LSI business, even co-designing the chip architecture. This move could impact TSMC's market share.
