Microsoft President: AI Gets Less Regulation Than Milk and Washing Machines
As artificial intelligence grows fast, more tech experts and politicians are calling for stronger rules. Companies like Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI have also warned that AI development needs to slow down.
Microsoft President Brad Smith said AI now faces less regulation than milk and washing machines. He pointed out that every box of milk in stores must follow safety rules and get checked, and even washing machines face stricter oversight than AI.
Smith believes AI can be used as a tool but can also become a weapon. He said the industry should set more safety standards. If an AI agent goes out of control and harms other companies, the company behind it should take responsibility.
He also called on major companies to add a kill switch to pause AI when things go wrong. His remarks show big tech firms are starting to take AI safety seriously.
